Descend into madness with Total War: Warhammer III—Mirror of Madness. Intel Gaming Access sat down with Richard Aldridge, game director and post-launch content lead on Total War: Warhammer III at Creative Assembly, to find out just how intense your battles can get.

**Infinite Trials **
Mirror of Madness is a new addition to Total War: Warhammer III that, Richard explains, is “split over two exciting new game modes: ‘The Trials of Fate’ and ‘The Infinite Portal’, where Mirror of Madness revels in its power, innovation, and change, themed around the Lord of Change himself: Tzeentch.”
In 'The Trials of Fate' game mode, release your inner Daemon Prince to survive the intense challenges. Defend the capture point known as the Shard, upgrade your skills and abilities with Forbidden Knowledge, and harness cataclysmic powers to dominate enemies across the realms. Your task, Richard says, is "holding out for as long as possible against never-ending waves of enemies in some classic Warhammer battles." Achieve high scores to unlock "a number of exclusive Daemon Prince parts to take with you into new and existing campaigns."
In The Infinite Portal game-mode, harness the reality-bending power of Tzeentch. Customize battles to your liking, from unit size and damage, to abilities and projectiles, which grants you unprecedented control. Embrace your role as the Lord of Change, and wreak chaos upon the realms as you see fit. As Richard says, "The options are near endless, pushing your hardware into new realms as you control and orchestrate the fun and madness of the battlefield."

**A Vision Unleashed **
Richard explains that they "really wanted to push the boundaries of our technology to see how we could best realize the amazing Warhammer world, reaching into areas we had only ever dreamed about when first starting out on this wild and exciting journey almost a decade ago." 
Just like the Lord of Change, Richard and the team are "always looking to create new experiences." He notes that, "with the release of Total War: Warhammer III, and the inclusion of the Daemonic race Tzeentch, it felt like the perfect moment to sprinkle a little magic on things." For instance, the Mirror of Madness addition gave Richard an opportunity to "look into the future of gaming now, and pit our players in a variety of trials and modes, which utilize a host of new and exciting advancements in our long standing series."

Collaborative Mastery
Due to the massive scale of Total War games, Richard affirmed that "performance is absolutely critical," which is why collaboration with hardware partners is crucial. "From the very beginning, we have been working very closely with our counterparts in Intel to get the most out of both our engine and the new hardware, and we've had a great time collaborating and are very pleased with the result." 
"One of the nicest things about collaborating with Intel is getting early access to the latest cutting-edge hardware, so we can better optimize our games for them," Richard continued. "The Intel team's experience with low-level profiling and optimization proved to be particularly useful in our endeavor to dial everything up to 11 for Mirror of Madness."

Limitless Mayhem
For PC gamers, "the best way to experience Total War: Warhammer III—Mirror of Madness is to drive your hardware to the absolute limit," Richard said. “There are not that many things in the gaming world that let you unleash a whirlwind of magic on thousands of your enemies—and allies!—and watch the ragdolled chaos unfold."
Mirror of Madness is "just the beginning for Total War: Warhammer III," and the Total War team is eager to "push things even further, and incorporate these new advancements into the exciting content we have planned for years to come." 
Mirror of Madness is part of the free 3.0 update released on April 13th 2023 to every player that owns Total War: Warhammer III.
