In the below video, I demonstrate the Bistro scene rendering 1024 samples at 1080p in roughly three (3) minutes with Embree optimizations \u2018on,\u2019 compared to five (5) minutes with Embree optimizations \u2018off.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Intel Embree GPU Hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing in Blender 3.6 LTS\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/7pgMAktN_TI?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Video demonstration of hardware-accelerated rendering provided by Intel Embree in Blender 3.6 Cycles on an Intel Arc GPU. It has been an integral part of Blender for many years, delivering accelerated CPU-based rendering that animation and VFX studios rely on to efficiently render very complex scenes. Now with Intel Embree providing optimized GPU rendering, further productivity can be gained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Intel Embree is part of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intel.com\/content\/www\/us\/en\/developer\/tools\/oneapi\/rendering-toolkit.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intel<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> oneAPI Rendering Toolkit<\/a>, which comprises other advanced ray tracing components as well, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openimagedenoise.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intel<sup>\u00ae<\/sup> Open Image Denoise library<\/a>. The Intel Open Image Denoise library may be more familiar to Blender users as the expert denoising solution for both professional and hobbyist 3D artists. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.openimagedenoise.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intel Open Image Denoise 2.0<\/a> recently released with GPU compute, supporting SYCL*, CUDA* and HIP* devices. We are excited for this enhancement and look forward to seeing it in a future version of Blender.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img src=\"https:\/\/game.intel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Spring-with-and-without-Open-Image-Denoise.jpg\" alt=\"Spring with and without Open Image Denoise\" class=\"wp-image-32796\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/game.intel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/06\/Spring-with-and-without-Open-Image-Denoise.jpg\"><\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Open Software Approach Benefits the Ecosystem<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/oneapi.io\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">oneAPI<\/a> (an open, multiarchitecture\/multivendor programming model), and the Intel Embree and Open Image Denoise libraries are key to Intel\u2019s approach to supporting the graphics ecosystem, by providing advanced open software solutions that enable unique hardware capabilities, delivering increased rendering performance, while retaining or improving render quality, and providing flexibility between CPU and GPU rendering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have been following <a href=\"https:\/\/arc.intel.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Intel Graphics<\/a> and our strategy for Intel GPUs this approach may sound familiar. With Intel Arc GPUs, we focused on aligning with modern APIs while adding open software solutions to drive performance and quality.\u00a0 Since the release of Intel Arc desktop GPUs in the fall of 2022, we improved performance consistently with new optimized drivers.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, with creator software like Blender, our Intel GPU performance will continue forward with more software improvements ahead including driver optimizations, additional rendering tools support for GPUs, and advanced Intel ray tracing technology integrations into many industry-leading renderers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can download Blender 3.6 LTS from <a href=\"https:\/\/blender.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Blender.org<\/a> with support for Intel Embree, Open Image Denoise and Intel GPUs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To take advantage of Embree\u2019s optimizations for hardware acceleration:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>In the <em>Properties<\/em> panel, set your rendering preferences to Cycles and set the device type to GPU<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>In <em>System Preferences<\/em> choose the <em>oneAPI<\/em> From there you will see your Intel GPU and CPU target. Select a preferred <em>GPU(s)<\/em> and check the <em>Embree<\/em> box to enable Embree.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>To learn more about Intel Embree and ray tracing hardware, visit <a href=\"https:\/\/www.embree.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">embree.org<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong><em>Compatibility: <\/em><\/strong><em>At time of this blog, Intel Embree for Blender 3.6 is compatible with both Windows and Linux, however issues have been spotted with scenes requiring long render times in Windows.
