The dust has settled on The Game Awards 2024, and once again we’re reminded of the phenomenal work game developers do to keep us entertained. The awards recognize the brilliance of games from triple-A barnstormers to incredible indies, and provide us plenty of list fodder for the holidays, when we should finally have time to play a few. There’s no shame in ducking out of the second round of charades for some quality me-time with your PC.
Our list of favourite wins from this year’s awards has to include the superb Final Fantasy VII Rebirth from our friends at Square Enix; it sparked waves of delicious nostalgia and bagged Best Score and Music (coming to PC in January 2025). Bandai Namco’s super-slick Tekken 8 punched its way to Best Fighting and a place on our list, where it nestles alongside Games for Impact winner Neva, the breathtakingly beautiful wolf-based tale from Spanish indie studio Nomada. Despite going home empty handed, Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth from our pals at SEGA—easily one of our top games of the year—held its head high with nominations for Best Narrative and Best RPG.
The Game Awards are also a platform for new glimpses at the experiences cued up to keep our thumbs busy and mouses clicking into the next year. Among this year’s entrants were a number of games Intel is proud to be collaborating on, helping to ensure the best possible experiences for PC players in 2025. Following its recent PC launch, hit multiplayer FPS Delta Force scored a killshot with its console announcement; there were epic new trailers for Dying Light: The Beast, and Killing Floor 3; and we were treated to an unforgettable orchestral performance of music from Civilization VII (coming February 2025).
Among the new announcements that made waves during the show was one for Elden Ring Nightreign, a two-player coop update which will undoubtedly be huge. The reveal of Turok Origins gave everyone a satisfying jump scare with Saber Interactive’s promise to do justice to the legendary franchise. And you’d have to be lost in Lapland to have missed the lid being lifted on The Witcher IV, the unstoppable RPG juggernaut that, this time, will put everyone’s favorite supernatural sidekick Ciri in the saddle.
We may be some way from anything resembling a release date for these new reveals, other than the confirmed 2025 date for Elden Ring Nightreign, but no matter, because the year ahead is already loaded with gaming riches. Our advice? Play as much as you can this holiday season, because you’ll have a ton more incredible experiences vying for your time in 2025. With the help of our excellent publishing and development partners, we’ll be sure to tell you all about them. In the meantime, happy holidays fellow gamers.
