Go Scorched Earth: Battlefield 6 Season 2 Is Fire

Season Two of Battlefield 6 has arrived, and the theatre of total war gets its second act. Are you combat-ready? The tides of battle turn fast: gains must be built on, losses must be absorbed, and tactics must be revised or refined. The Season Two mayhem begins with Extreme Measures which dropped February 17th. Keep Out? Nice Try

Usually when an area is designated Contaminated, it’s a warning. In Battlefield 6, however, it’s more like a welcome mat. The new Contaminated map is the centerpiece of Extreme Measures and charts an irresistible hellscape for NATO and Pax Armata to wage relentless war over. In any other game universe, a trip to the Bavarian mountains could sound quite pleasant; here players face rocky terrain, destructible tunnels, and fresh alpine air. Wait, that last one does actually sound pleasant—until you realise that this fresh alpine air carries psychoactive VL-7 smoke right to you… and then the hallucinations begin.

Freakiest Fog of War

Getting into your head has a whole new meaning with this incredible new chemical addition to the game’s arsenal. The effects of the VL-7 smoke transform the battlefield experience from the inside out. New modes capitalize on the smoke’s potential to mess with the most hardened warrior and make them second-guess their own eyes, and instincts. In VL-7 Strike Limited Time Mode you stay alert and go in fast. VL-7 saturates both multiplayer and Redacted Sector (REDSEC) areas, so you’ll have to load up on masks and filters to keep your head straight. In Battle Royale—Synthesis Limited Time Mode the smoke engulfs Fort Lyndon, and the former government testing facility where VL-7 was formulated.  Drop in, mask up, or get weird. This is intense, mind-bending combat that brings new meaning to the phrase “fog of war” as you fight the smoke. You can loot masks and filters, not just to test your skills but to try to stay straight, or alternatively you can surrender to the smoke and test your reactions in an altered state.

Speaking of altered states, Gauntlet Altered State Limited Time Mode challenges you to survive and advance in a cutthroat, knockout-style elimination mode. Upgraded with new smoke features, squads race to complete missions as they navigate the disorienting effects of the psychoactive fumes. It’s the trip of a lifetime.

A Little Bird Told Us

The Scout is back, veterans. The legendary attack helicopter that’s the very definition of punching above your weight returns to the skies above the NATO/Pax Armata maelstrom. Whether it’s the AH-6 Little Bird for NATO, or the MH-350 for Pax Armata, you can scope out the battlefield from above and strike down your enemy’s lines with this versatile chopper. On the ground, feel the heat as you fire up the M121 A2, a belt-fed heavy machine gun that delivers high damage, especially at close range. For a slower burn, the GRT-CPS is designed for mid- to long-range engagements. It’s a semi-automatic with high magazine capacity that results in more sustained fire, for longer. Want to hit hard and fast? Pick up the VCR-2, a short-range assault rifle with a rapid rate of fire: your best friend for close-quarters combat.

Skies getting crowded? The 9K38 Igla missile launcher locks on to enemy aircraft and takes them down. To detect, disable, and destroy, use the HTI-Mk2. It’s a short-to-medium range recon device with the ability to identify and reveal gadgets, overload enemy recon drones, and even eliminate inbound rockets. And don’t forget your mask, it offers protection against the effects of VL-7 and lets you advance through the smoke. Filter cartridges increase the time your mask will shield you from the hallucinogens.
