Simply eliminating bad guys wouldn\u2019t be enough to explore the muddled morality of RoboCop, because upholding the law takes more than just a loaded Auto-9. Of course there are plenty of exhilarating shootouts to flex Alex Murphy\u2019s metal muscles, but RoboCop: Rogue City rounds out the image of RoboCop with more. Investigative work, street patrols, an expansive RPG-style perks system, and story-rich dialogue featuring original actors bridge the gap between the silver screen and PC monitors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Visuals worthy of the big screen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Director Piotr \u0141atocha explained, \u201cthe story in RoboCop: Rogue City is a brand new story. It introduces a lot of new characters and villains, and the story itself fills a gap between films RoboCop 2 and 3.\u201d The singleplayer first-person RoboCop: Rogue City needed to retain the cinematic qualities which cemented the franchise\u2019s place in pop culture, so naturally the game\u2019s graphics had to be worthy of the big screen too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/game.intel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/RoboCop-Rogue-City-cinema-1024x576.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3590\"><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Lead programmer Piotr Derkowski shares with us the challenges in balancing awe-inspiring visuals and smooth performance. \u201cThe more fluid the gameplay, the better experience the player has.\u201d Stuttering frames undermine immersion, so bidirectional collaboration between Teyon and two of Intel\u2019s software engineers ensured both RoboCop: Rogue City and our Intel\u00ae Arc\u2122 graphics drivers were well-oiled before the game\u2019s release. \u201cIt would be nice to have it this way with many other hardware vendors,\u201d Derkowski added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Half man, half machine, all optimized for hybrid CPUs and AI upscaling<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Teyon chose to optimize RoboCop: Rogue City for Intel\u00ae Core\u2122 CPUs and Intel Arc GPUs. As CEO Micha\u0142 Tatka put it, \u201cWe spoke a lot about multi-core hybrid architecture. This is an important thing because Intel Core CPUs have a few of the really fast P-cores, and E-cores to do the background tasks.\u201d Properly guiding the game\u2019s threads makes the most effective use of newer Intel Core processors, ultimately maximizing performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the graphics side, Micha\u0142 explained \u201c[Intel Arc graphics] is the third player on the market that brings a new, quite fast graphics card, and performance-to-price, it\u2019s like #1.\u201d Piotr D. added, \u201cWhoever is going to get this Intel Arc GPU is going to have a good experience playing RoboCop: Rogue City.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Beyond supporting Intel hardware, Teyon also chose to incorporate Intel X<sup>e<\/sup>SS for faster framerates via AI-powered upscaling. \u201cWe didn\u2019t find any compromises here, so the image in the end was as crisp as it could be. For us, it was as easy as taking X<sup>e<\/sup>SS and activating it in our custom Unreal Engine 5 version. Investigation by Intel engineers on the low level layers resolved instability, and a public demo revealed more could be done to stabilize the game on a wide variety of hardware. Teyon took a risk in changing the Unreal Engine version just months before release, and it paid off in preventing game crashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Even after the game was stable, the collaboration\u2019s work wasn\u2019t done as there was still stuttering to resolve. Graphics shaders fill in every pixel \u2014 millions per frame \u2014 and the enormous variety of textures, reflections, and particle effects around Old Detroit required a great deal of shaders. The sheer amount of shaders needed to be streamlined for a smooth experience. The bilateral collaboration again benefitted both Teyon and Intel, who each respectively optimized Pipeline State Object (PSO) caching and graphics drivers for RoboCop: Rogue City.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Building excitement and a unique PC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Intel\u2019s support didn\u2019t end once all the performance optimizations had been made. Among other ways to spread awareness about RoboCop: Rogue City, we built and gave away a fully custom PC built in the shape of the ED-209 robots in the films and game. That\u2019s a lotta firepower!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-9d6595d7 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" src=\"https:\/\/game.intel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ED-209-custom-PC-front-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3583\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" src=\"https:\/\/game.intel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/02\/ED-209-Custom-PC-side-1024x682.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-3584\"><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>With Intel\u2019s help, the efforts Teyon put in to release RoboCop: Rogue City in a fully finished state hasn\u2019t gone unnoticed, especially in an age where gamers are rightfully critical of cut corners and buggy performance. Since the game\u2019s release on 2 November \u201923, thousands of protectors of the innocent have Very Positively reviewed <a href=\"https:\/\/store.steampowered.com\/app\/1681430\/RoboCop_Rogue_City\/\">RoboCop: Rogue City on Steam<\/a>. The positive reception is motivating Teyon to keep up the good work, having recently added a New Game Plus mode and using their knowledge to make more great games in the future.
