There are few global gaming franchises on the same scale as Call of Duty. As the series approaches its 20th anniversary in 2023, developer Infinity Ward is preparing its 10th entry in the sprawling Activision-published series—Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. The evolution of the series continues apace in this latest iteration, in which the action picks up from where Modern Warfare 2019 left off. With ever-more impressive visuals, overhauled weapon handling, and a massively expanded multiplayer experience among the game’s treats, fans are going to have a blast. Intel Gaming Access jumped into a co-op lobby with Kornelia Takacs, Producer on the Multiplayer team at Infinity Ward, to load out for the fight.

“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II is about you fighting alongside your team in single player as well as in Special Ops co-op and multiplayer,” said Kornelia, setting out the stall for the new game. Players are handsomely accommodated in the game, with a plethora of choices to match different play styles and predilections. “Modern Warfare II has so many options for fans, no matter how they like to play,” continued Kornelia. “It’s both for our longtime franchise fans and new gamers.”
The fresh, engaging single player storyline is there for players who like campaigns, and the Special Ops mode is for those who enjoy co-op missions. Meanwhile, Warzone, Battle Royale and DMZ are for players who like to immerse themselves in large maps with their squad. “We’ve seen a lot of excitement within the community about Warzone, DMZ and Battle Royale, while others can’t wait to play the single player campaign and co-op,” said Kornelia.

“There’s also Call of Duty: Mobile, and last but certainly not least, my favorite—Multiplayer,” continued Kornelia. “Within multiplayer there is Ground War, third person mode, Tier 1 mode, and we’re also introducing new game modes—Knockout and Prisoner Rescue—to our usual lineup of fan favorites, with even more to come post-launch.” The multiplayer game comes stuffed with new equipment, field upgrades and Killstreaks. “Killstreaks are great,” continued Korneila. “My personal favorite new items are the Drill Charge—great in objective-based modes as you try to breach a room that’s defended by the enemy—and the Shock Stick.” 
Another cool feature is the game’s new Perk Package system, which lets you create your own customized Perk Package once you’ve unlocked Create a Class at level 4. And then, of course, there are the weapons. “Our weapons team did an incredible job in terms of tuning and selection—the Lockwood and Fennec are some of my favorites.” Lastly, to get the fans really fired up, there’s a major comeback on the cards in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II. “Task Force 141 returns, which is great, as Ghost is my personal favorite,” said Kornelia. “There is so much content in the game. There’s something for everyone and it really feels like we’re shipping four games in one.”

The launch of a new Call of Duty game is understandably an all-consuming period for the team, and this time there’s more on the Infinity Ward slate than the release of the main game. “Right now we are focusing on the launch of Modern Warfare II, as well as on our Season 01 content which includes Call of Duty: Warzone 2.0 launching on November 16,” said Kornelia. “There is so much more to come in our future season releases including all-new Battle Pass items, Operators, maps, game modes and of course ensuring overall good performance and stability across the board.” 
Ultimately, it’s all about the global community of fans that the franchise serves, and with so much on offer in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II, excitement levels are high. “We can’t wait for our players worldwide to get their hands on the game and play it,” said Kornelia. “Team up with your friends and have fun!”
