Target in Range—Battlefield 6: Season 3 Arrives

by Intel Gaming |

Season 3 of Battlefield 6 stormed PC screens everywhere with the May 12 release of Warlords: Supremacy, the first of three explosive chapters publisher EA Games will roll out in the coming weeks. . The War of 2027 rages on and the remnants of NATO—the United States, the United Kingdom, and Egypt—have long battled Pax Armata, a shadowy coalition force of well-funded and wholly unaccountable private military interests. In Warlords: Supremacy, Pax Command is in disarray and the Pax Warlords have infiltrated the void. Their only rule of engagement is that there are no rules of engagement. Lock and load, gamers. We’re going in.

War, Reimagined

The Season 3 update for Battlefield 6 and REDSEC (the free-to-play Battle Royale spin-off) introduces hundreds of gameplay improvements, fixes, and individual updates. These include a major overhaul to vehicle handling; a broad pass on gadgets, especially the launchers; the introduction of an in-game seasonal statistics page; and improvements to netcode and combat feedback.

Also overhauled?  The iconic Battlefield map Golmud Railway is revitalized and reimagined, becoming  the Railway to Golmud. Golmud was the biggest map yet when it launched with Battlefield 4, and the latest incarnation holds on to the title. The Battlefield 6: Season 3 version is reminiscent of the original, but no reproduction. There’s a village in ruins, a massive rolling landscape full of hills and valleys ablaze with tank shootouts, an industrial site for fast-paced close-quarters combat, and a moving railway that squads must battle to control. Look closer and you see it features dozens of updates— expanded airspace, added verticality and flanking opportunities for better engagements at all distances, and more cover pieces for infantry-versus-vehicle scenarios. Infantry, ground vehicles, jets, and helicopters collide in massive all-out war. Curious?  You can read more about the transformational development process here.

Totally Bazaar

High-intensity close-quarters combat is served by another reimagined classic map, the Grand Bazaar from Battlefield 3. Here it’s the Cairo Bazaar, a bustling marketplace in the heart of the Egyptian city that’s packed with snaking alleys and innovative tactical opportunities to get up-close-and-deadly. The action is creatively confined to an area in and around a single city block; an outer perimeter road permits small-vehicle traffic and provides flanking opportunities. The mirrored map design gives NATO and the warlords similar pathways, shortcuts, and chokepoints.

How you deal destruction in those tight corners may be influenced by some new hardware. Take the shot with the new L115 sniper rifle; a deadly bolt-action sniper rifle compatible with multiple hardware attachments that excels in long to very-long range combat. Prefer fully automatic and burst-fire capabilities? Rack up the new M16A4 assault rifle for mid- and short-mid range effectiveness, or grab the new RPK–74M LMG   with minimal recoil and lower damage than other LMGs. Whatever the distance, you’re covered. And don’t forget to submit those hall-of-fame shots to EA Games’ “Only in Battlefield” clip submission page.

Get Obliterated

Season 3 introduces another new mode: Obliteration.  This isn’t post-battle beers with your squad—it’s the iconic Battlefield 4 multiplayer experience revolutionized. A race to destroy enemy comms, neutrally placed bombs across each map set up the mission. Both sides must risk everything to get to the bomb, then escort the carrier to the detonation site and obliterate the enemy. When you’re not using bombs to mess with the comms, you can jam the enemy signal with the Handheld Jammer. A Recon Gadget, the jammer disrupts nearby smart/electronic devices for a short period of time. It can be placed in—or hurled into—a specific area to produce localized malfunctions. We’re divided on whether it’s even more fun to carry it around and turn a Recon soldier into a mobile nuisance.

You can also make mischief with new blastpoint attachments, such as #00 Buckshot, which offers greater range and less spread than standard buckshot, or cryogenic barrels—which unfortunately don’t stay forever youthful. Cryogenic barrels use advanced cryo technology to create a temperature barrier that withstands friction and combustion, giving you exactly what you need: greater accuracy under fire.
