Intel® Arc™ Graphics DX11 Performance Updates and a new Intel® PresentMon Beta!

by Intel Gaming |

We’re rolling out DirectX 11 driver updates to bring more performance to PC gamers and releasing a new tool to help enthusiasts and the community measure and evaluate performance of their systems. Prepare to geek out!

When we launched Intel Arc desktop products last year, we said that Intel Arc graphics would get better, would be a labor of love, and we are committed and executing to that promise. Today we are proud to unveil that DirectX 11 games are getting a performance boost with higher frame rates and smoother experiences, much like our DX9 driver improvements earlier this year!

With the release of our latest Intel Arc Game On driver, we’ve boosted performance across a set of incredibly popular and important DX11 games: gamers will see 19% better frame rates on average, and 20% smoother frame delivery on average. If you invested in an Intel Arc A750 graphics card then you can download the driver and start seeing improved experiences in Overwatch 2, DOTA 2, Apex Legends, and more. And if you have been waiting for the right time to upgrade your gaming PC with a graphics card that delivers some of the best value on the market, there’s no better time than now!

This is just the beginning for DX11 improvements. This set of games is the opening salvo from our engineers, with more to come through the rest of 2023.

We’ll never say we are done improving Intel Arc GPUs, but with DX11 now squarely in our sights, it’s another example of our commitment to gamers with software improvements and game tech integrations. Since our desktop launch we released 30 drivers, added support for 57 new games through our Game On driver program, and offered dozens of other improvements to games. And the gaming world continues to see the advantages of Intel XeSS AI-enhanced super sampling with more than 70 games now integrating it!

We do have another treat for enthusiasts as well. Some of you may have heard about a tool called “PresentMon” that was developed at Intel years ago, that powers many pieces of software used for graphics performance analysis. Today we are releasing the first beta of Intel® PresentMon, a total revamp of the tool that makes it enthusiast-friendly. This update adds new features, and we hope it will push the next wave of gaming performance analysis.

There are some cool features of Intel PresentMon that I want to call out. First is the new overlay.

This overlay can run while your game is on the screen to show your performance, GPU telemetry like voltage and temperature, and analyze a heap of information, all in real time. Want to see your 99th percentile frame times charted against your GPU utilization just above a chart of memory of utilization? We’ve got you! Maybe you really love histograms (like TAP does!) or maybe you are just tech-curious and want to see how your system is behaving – Intel PresentMon will impress.

Another cool feature this beta brings is a totally new metric called “GPU Busy.” It can get pretty geeky pretty quick, but the TLDR is that you can see how much time your GPU is spending doing actual rendering versus sitting idle, or if your gaming PC is really CPU and GPU balanced, which makes the “GPU Busy” metric look interesting. Our video discussion with TAP at the top of the page goes into a lot more detail on this; I highly encourage you all to watch it if you want to nerd out, and maybe learn a bit about the game render pipeline along the way. Keep an eye out for our tech reviewer friends that will be using this metric for some interesting stories soon!

Intel® PresentMon supports data capture for post-game analysis, supports all GPU vendors, will run on DX9/11/12 and Vulkan, and can be ran through a command line for anyone that just CRAVES automation. And any of our developer friends out there that were dependent on PresentMon for their own applications can rest assured that continues to be supported in the tool.

If you’re interested in playing with the overlay and tool yourself, head on over to the Intel® PresentMon product page and watch our video with TAP to get a quick demo and rundown.

It’s a big day for Intel Arc graphics! A new driver release is boosting DX11 gaming performance by 19% on average in the collection of games we tested and up to 33% faster in games like Overwatch 2 on the Arc A750 GPU, AND we are releasing a new gaming performance tool to the world with Intel® PresentMon. There has never been a better time to get your own Intel Arc graphics card, and the A750 GPU is a great one to grab from one of our many retail partners!
